Sensory Friendly Disability Awareness Month Event to take place at The World Theatre

Kearney, NE (3.24.23) — On March 28th, The Arc of Buffalo County and Kearney Special Olympics will present, in partnership with UNK Athletics, the movie Champions at The World Theatre. The public is encouraged to come at 6 pm to visit with event sponsors and enjoy light refreshments before the movie begins at 7 pm.
The Arc Board of Directors collaborated with Kearney Special Olympics’ leaders to create this special event in an effort to recognize Disability Awareness Month, which occurs every March.
“Champions” stars actor Woody Harrelson. The story is about “A former minor-league basketball coach that receives a court order to manage a team
of players with intellectual disabilities. Despite his doubts, he soon realizes they can go further together than they ever imagined.”

It aligns with Disability Awareness Month and the showing is taking place right as Kearney’s Special Olympics athletes prepare to travel to Omaha for state competition. A free-will donation will be collected in place of the cost of admission. Those donations will benefit The Arc and Kearney Special Olympics.
