The Arc of Buffalo County, a local chapter of a national organization that advocates and supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families is hiring an Executive Director. This position will be a part-time position.
Qualifications for the position are as follows: Minimum of a high school diploma with college or “real life” experience working in an office setting as a manager; Parent, sibling, or other relationship with a person with an intellectual or developmental disability; Experience in grant writing, communication, fundraising, developing newsletters, outreach to the community for memberships, and other day-to-day responsibilities of managing a non-profit organization; Budgeting and Strategic Planning; Planning meetings and leading committees and volunteers.
Some specific responsibilities will be: Assure that the organization has a long-range strategy to achieve its mission; Provide leadership in developing programs and financial plans with the Board of Directors, and carry out plans and policies authorized by the Board; Promote active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of the organization’s work; Maintain records and documents for the organization and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations; Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field.

JOB DESCRIPTION OF EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Arc of Buffalo County
The Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer of The Arc of Buffalo County. The ED reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for the organization’s consistent achievement of its mission and financial objectives. In program development and administration, the ED will:
Specific Responsibilities:
- Assure that the organization has a long-range strategy that achieves its mission, and toward which it makes consistent and timely progress.
- Provide leadership in developing programs, and organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff, and carry out plans and policies authorized by the Board. Lead the organization into the next level of advocacy for people with disabilities, increasing programs and membership.
- Promote active and broad participation by volunteers in all areas of the organization’s work.
- Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, coordinating with the accounting firm and the President of The Arc of Buffalo County.
- Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field.
In Communications, the ED will:
- See that the Board is kept fully informed on the condition of the organization and all important factors influencing it.
- Publicize the activities of the organization, its programs, and its goals.
- Establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with community groups and organizations.
- Represent the programs and point of view of the organization to agencies organizations and the general public.
In Relation to Volunteers, the ED will:
- Be responsible for the recruitment of volunteers
- Maintain a climate that attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse selection of volunteers
- Organize all volunteer opportunities, reaching out to community members for participation
In Budget and Finance, the ED will:
- Be responsible for developing and maintaining sound financial practices.
- Work with the Finance Committee and the Board in preparing a budget; see that the organization operates within the budget guidelines.
- Ensure that adequate funds are available to permit the organization to carry out its work.
- Jointly, with the President and Secretary of the Board of Directors, or officer so designated, conduct official correspondence of the organization.
Additional Items:
This is an hourly position, with flexible hours. At this time, payment is agreed to be $16.00 per hour for a minimum of 25 to 30 hours per week. These hours may vary according to events and/or programs that may occur from time to time (e.g. Honey Sunday, Buddy Bowling, and other fundraising and programming events). Mileage will be reimbursed at the I.R.S. rate. Payment is agreed to occur bi-weekly upon submission of hours to The Arc of Buffalo County’s President of the Board. No other benefits are available at this time. The office will be closed on the usual holidays observed by the public.
