Adult Activities and Programs

The Arc of Buffalo County provides many opportunities for adult activities and programs. Please also check out our calendar to see what is planned for each month, week, or day!

Aktion Club is a Kiwanis Club for adults with developmental disabilities, stressing service to the community and socialization.

Buddy Bowling is an unofficial bowling league that brings together UNK volunteers and people with developmental disabilities for about 8 weeks every semester.  Spring 2016 Registration

AIR – Arc Individualized Recreation Program brings people with developmental disabilities into the mainstream  of community by having recreation aides available to take them out into the community about two times monthly. This is a fee-based service funded by an individual’s Nebraska Developmental Disabilities community support waiver dollars or private pay.

Arc at the Y is a cooperative program with the Kearney YMCA. Every Friday night from 6:30-8:00 pm the Kearney YMCA offers its facilities at no charge to people with developmental disabilities and their helper. The Arc of Buffalo County often will furnish supervised activities on Friday evenings during the school year. (Call the Arc of Buffalo County office for further information).

Craft Class 2

Summer Day Trips provide opportunities for people with developmental disabilities to get out of Kearney to see things like the Lincoln Salt Dogs play baseball or to hear a country music concert at the Hall County or State Fair in Grand Island.

People First of Kearney is part of a state advocacy organization for adults with developmental disabilities. This program helps members learn how to speak out and have the confidence to see themselves as People First-their disability second. People First meets the 4th Thursday of each month from 4-5:00 pm at the Kearney Manor Pavilion. Those interested in attending are encouraged to call the Arc of Buffalo County office to verify meeting time and location.
